About me
I am a qualified social worker as well as a qualified teacher with years of experience. I have worked in the fields of child protection and foster care, children in conflict with the law, mental health and education. I have worked with all walks of people – in South Africa and abroad.
It is my passion to see families restored and healed. I believe that people are resilient, and that trauma can be overcome with a lot of love. I use Gestalt Play Therapy to meet the child on his or her level to help them overcome their struggles.
I am blessed with a loving husband and two very busy boys. My kids are a joy in my life. We love playing outside and going cycling. However, I do not always feel like I have all the answers and often feel that I should be doing better as a parent and wife. Becoming a mother has humbled me and kept me on my knees before the Father. My kids are such a blessing but I also realise the huge responsibility I have to raise them well. I know that I won’t be able to shelter them from all the difficulties in life, but hopefully I can help them to be resilient to overcome the challenges they will face in life.
What is Play Therapy?
Children are experiencing so many challenges but are unable to communicate their emotions. They often do not know themselves which emotions they experience and what it is that upset them. Parents might struggle to understand their child’s struggles and there might be conflict between parent and child.
Play Therapy is used to understand the child and the things which he or she might be struggling with. The child is then helped through play to handle the difficult situations. Parents are given feedback and strengthened to assist their child in the best possible manner. The relationship between the parent and the child is always nourished.
Benefits of Play Therapy:
“The natural medium of communication for children is to play. Play-focussed intervention is, therefore, an effective means to engage with children”. Dr. Hannie Schoeman
As a play therapist, I can enter the world of the child in a non-threating manner. The child can communicate exactly what he or she feels without using words. The child will then feel “seen and heard”. Play techniques is used to boost the child and make him more resilient for life’s challenges. It is useful for all sorts of struggles children are experiencing. Parents are given feedback and guided on how to assist their child and to strengthen their relationship with their child.

Testimonials
Dankie Jana! Mag jy nog 1000de ander gesinne se verhoudings so aanraak!
